MORTGAGE FORECLOSURE HELP

On September 8, 2008 the Kensington South Neighborhood Advisory Council held a meeting with professional advisors to help anyone in need to address this problem and there is help available.

Mayor Nutter has created the Philadelphia Mortgage Foreclosure Protection Plan through a Common Pleas Court established pilot program. The Plan consists of a number of measures designed to help Philadelphia homeowners affected by the mortgage foreclosure crisis including free housing counseling services and a hotline that people can call if they are having trouble with their mortgages. The Plan will divert properties set for sheriff's sales into conciliation conferences to work out possible loan renegotiations with the lender.

The city is funding this program and will provide $700,000 for housing counseling, $300,000 for legal services provided by Community Legal Services and $1 million in remortgaging funding for the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency's HERO program in the next fiscal year.

If you are in immediate risk of losing you hope because you have received a foreclosure notice, call 215.334.HOME immediately, before time for help runs out.

Mayor Nutter has said, "If you fear you might possibly lose your most valuable asset, there is hope for you. Do not suffer in silence." Mayor Nutter knows that if you lose your home, all who value this wonderful city and neighborhood, lose, too.

If you even think you may be on shaky ground, it is imperative that you act now. You may need help or not. It is much better to know than to worry.

EASTERN NORTH PHILLY COMMUNITY PLANNING PROCESS

As part of a process for drafting a resident-driven neighborhood plan, the Women's Community Revitalization Project and the Eastern North Philadelphia Coalition hosted a community meeting on Thursday, September 25, 2008 where residents discussed their hopes and fears for the neighborhood as well as their ideas for improving the community. Their suggestions will be incorporated into a draft plan, which will cover the area from Front to 6th Streets between Girard and Montgomery Avenues. It will be presented back to neighbors next spring.
