COMMUNITY TREE PLANTING

Our November Community Tree Planting, the first to happen in the Fall, was a big success!

We were able to get all 50 trees, including 5 beautiful Locust trees at the James Ludlow School planted before the massive downpour.

We would like to thank each and every one of the neighbors and friends who came out on planting day. Also, thank you to The Crane Arts for the use of their courtyard and to Cousins Supermarket, to Mindy Maslin and Mike Hardy of PHS for their continued support and to Michael, Casey and Emily of Treevitalize. And, of course, much appreciation to our local Tree Tenders and Greening Committee volunteers whose time and energy throughout the year make the whole thing possible.

Coming soon: an updated map of where trees have been planted since Spring 2007 Click Here

ATTENTION COMMUNITY GARDENERS,
NEW AND OLD!

Is there a vacant lot that you or your neighbors have been maintaining or would like to turn into a garden or park? Does the city own the property or is it privately owned?

These informal gardens and parks, which have been cared for by neighbors for years, are often vulnerable to real estate speculation. Now is the time to act to preserve the open space in our neighborhood. The KSNAC has developed a list of these properties so that we can advocate for their preservation. Please contact us to see if your lot is on the list, to hear what else can be done and to share any tips for success that you have gained. One way to show that neighbors are interested and able to maintain the land for a positive use, the KSNAC has developed a list of these properties so that we can advocate for their preservation. Please contact us to see if your lot is on the list, to hear what else can be done and to share any tips for success that you have gained.

Sign up for Garden Tenders Course.
Philadelphia Green's Garden Tenders is a self-help training course for community groups and non-profit organizations within the city of Philadelphia that are interested in starting community gardens on vacant lots in parks, around schools and churches. The responsibility for creating and maintaining a garden belongs to each group. To find out more, visit here.
